Roomba VS. Neato: The Best of Tthe Robot Vacuums?

Vacuuming is one chore which nearly everyone dreads. Hauling out a heavy, over sized vacuum cleaner and wrestling it across your floors is no easy task. The real problem is that vacuuming is one of the most important cleaning tasks you’ll ever face.

Not only does a freshly vacuumed home look much nicer, it will be healthier in nearly every way. Vacuuming does more than just pick up dirt. It actually removes allergens from the air, improving the indoor air quality and alleviating problems associated with common allergies.

Vacuuming was something you simply had to do for decades but things have changed. Modern technology has brought us a long list of amazing robotic vacuums that will do your least favorite chore for you, without complaints.

This comparison is going to look at two of the best robot vacuums and help you determine which one will keep your home looking and feeling clean with no effort at all.

Size

Robotic vacuums are designed to be small. This is so they can easily glide underneath furniture and clean areas that traditional vacuums simply can’t reach. This is true for both of these robots as well. They’re roughly the same size and are built to be low to the ground, allowing them to get underneath different obstacles with ease.

The Neato XV-21 is, however, just a little larger than the Roomba but only by a few inches in width. It’s also about an inch or two taller than the Roomba which might create some difficulties for extremely low clearance situations but it should be low enough for most homes.

The Roomba is about a pound lighter than the Neato but this might not be a benefit. Since robotic vacuums operate themselves, a slightly heavier body can improve traction on the wheels and contribute to longer battery life by reducing the power wasted with low traction wheels.

Shape

The shape of these two vacuums is one of their most noticeable differences. The Roomba 790, like nearly all the products offered by this company, is round. The XV-21, on the other hand, is rounded in the back and square in the front.

The square front of the XV-21 does give it a slightly wider cleaning path. This means it can clean a larger area in fewer passes than a thinner alternative. It also acts as a bit of a bumper just in case it runs into anything. A round vacuum might be deflected and sent on a different course rather than simply correcting itself.

Neato XV21

It also has a high quality filter that can help remove dust, dander, and other related allergens from the air. The powerful suction actually improves the level of filtration by pulling in even microscopic allergen particles and shoving them right into the filter, ensuring a more thorough allergen capture.

The XV-21 can also tackle almost all floor types and switch between them automatically. It knows what type of flooring it’s running across and can adjust itself to match. This means it can easily go from carpets to hardwood, then to linoleum, and back again without any additional input from you.

Roomba 790

The Roomba 790 is not without its own impressive features. Most of these have been designed around making it more efficient while being easier to use when do though Organics had come “about” time a bit the, at the same time. One of the most interesting features of the Roomba is the Virtual Wall Lighthouses.

Roomba 790

These constrain the robot to a particular room, or set of rooms, until it’s done cleaning them completely. Once it’s finished, the virtual wall comes down and the Roomba rolls into the next room. This is a great idea as some robot vacuums have a tendency to wander around your house rather than clean room by room.

It also has a 3 stage cleaning system. The underside of this robot has a spinning side brush that helps clean along walls and baseboards. The main brushes are counter rotating which make it work a bit like a dustpan and broom. Finally, the AeroVac Series 2 suction system makes sure all of this is pulled into the dirt bin and double filter.

The Roomba  also has an improved battery and a wireless remote control. This lets you initiate, stop, or change a cleaning job without ever getting up from the couch. If you get a call and find out that company is coming over, you don’t even need to get up to clean.

The Winner

Both of these are impressive, state of the art robotic vacuums. Deciding between them can be difficult but taking a look at the price tag can help. The Roomba is significantly more expensive than the Neato. There is a good reason for this, mainly because Roomba is the brand leader, but it can be a bit expensive if you’re not ready to spend that kind of money.

It really comes down to your main concern. If you want a robotic vacuum that was designed specifically to clean up after pets and reduce the amount of pet related allergens in the air, then the Neato XV-21 Robotic Vacuum is a perfect choice.

If, however, you’re looking for a convenient, intelligent, and versatile robotic vacuum that is going to take on a variety of different floor types, locations, and obstacle then you simply can’t do better than the Roomba 790 Robot Vacuum. There’s a reason why Roomba is the market leader and you’ll see it when you get your hands on one.
